Troy's tale is a sad one indeed. After his father was killed in the Galidon/Blocktir war and his mother died from disease, Troy was taken in by the channeler Vyldain. Sensing psychic potential in the boy, Vyldain began to teach him how to access the astral realm.
As Troy's abilities increased, Vyldain deemed him ready to use a Streaming Glass. Upon contact with the Glass, Troy began to shake and convulse. Slag corrupted him through the astral realm, and Vyldain was corrupted in turn.
